This site sells patent rights for several technologies related to girder, bridge, and bridge pier reinforcement. It is operated by Hirayama Engineering Co., Ltd. Following is a profile of our company as well as a word from our CEO.
Commencement
During the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, I had occasion to witness a powerful local earthquake and felt a sense of terror at its destructive force. At the same time, I questioned the way in which current public infrastructure projects were pursued as a result of seeing bridge piers destroyed and expressways toppled by the earthquake. Public structures designed to protect the life and lifestyles of Japan's citizens cannot be allowed to collapse after a single earthquake. So thinking, I thoroughly researched the reinforcement of girders and piers and ultimately invented the technologies for which the patents in question are held.
It is said that if we continue using existing girder and bridge pier technology, every structure built using that approach will be destroyed when an earthquake as strong as or stronger than the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake strikes an urban area. We need only look to Japanese history to see that our country has previously been the victim of earthquakes stronger than that one, for example the Ansei Earthquake (which was powerful enough to destroy temples built using traditional carpentry techniques whose durability is legendary). Given such precedent, is it not easy to imagine another such earthquake striking Japan? I believe that public infrastructure projects must not choose technologies based solely on cost. Instead, I encourage you to select these patented technologies in order to return to true public infrastructure projects that protect human life on an ongoing basis, even in the event of an unprecedented earthquake the likes of which we have never experienced.
